    ai believe you have confused stretching with warm-up. Most sports trainers and sports medicine doctors agree that athletes should warm-up for 5-15 minutes by doing some type of aerobic activity (walking, biking, etc) that increases blood flow to the muscles, tendons and joints. Recent research disputes the value of stretching alone however. It is very easy to hyper-extend (and even tear)muscles, joints and tendons by stretching alone. One should always warm-up first.
